The transition from 2nd generation cellular protocols such as GSM/GPRS and CDMA 2000 to 3rd and 4th generation standards such as EDGE, UMTS, and EVDO has drastically increased the amount of data that needs to be backhauled. Yet, wiring base stations to a fiber backbone is a slow and expensive process. GigaCom's next-generation products have the advantage of being quick to deploy, and being reliable and upgradeable with low ongoing costs. The products have very low latency and very low latency variability for the backhaul layer. Moreover, the system is flexible, expandable, scalable and reconfigurable to be a future-proof product, and manageable, maintainable, interoperable, reliable and robust to be cost-effective.

This product line offers up to 32 E1 or T1 interfaces coupled with GigE interfaces for flexible transport over the same network. Thus customers can easily migrate to native IP networks while still supporting legacy TDM services. The bandwidth allocation between TDM and Ethernet traffic is seamless. The TDM traffic is combined with traffic from native Ethernet sources to create a single transport layer. This methodology offers customers a single converged network that is more efficient and cost-effective.
